Paywall for WooCommerce adds a new product type with some special features. You can see them in the image below:
- “Hide Description”: When checked, the full product description will be hidden until the product is purchased.So you can add “announcement” text to the short description and show the full text only after the customer has paid for the product.
- “Hidden Media URL”: If you enter a URL here, the product image will be replaced with the media pointed to by the URL.It can be a video from YouTube, Vimeo, etc., a PDF file, another image – you can use pretty much any URL that WordPress recognizes as embeddable.
- “Visible Media URL”: Alternatively, you can replace visible product images with embeddable media. For example:
- “visible” will show video trailing and “hidden” – full video;
- Show the first page of the PDF in “Visible” and the full PDF in “Hidden”;
- “Visible” shows a low-resolution image with a watermark and “Hidden” – a clean high-resolution photo.
- “Custom Expiration”: You can specify an expiration time when customers will stop receiving product access. There are global and per-product settings.
Additionally, there are special shortcodes that can be used to show or hide parts of the content.
[woopaywall_show_after_purchase]
This shortcode allows you to hide some content (for example, a short or full description) and show it only to customers who purchased the product.

Interface details
Paywall products are based on standard WooCommerce Simple products. Here are some differences:
- Paywall products are virtual and do not allow inventory management.
- Only one product can be placed in the cart.
- AJAX add to cart is disabled.
- Logged in users can only purchase each Paywall product once. They can then see the hidden content until the access expires.
- The add to cart button has different text and different CSS classes depending on whether the product has been purchased or is currently in the cart.
Watch out for hidden content
It is important to note that after purchase, customers can download, copy and share content. Paywall extensions do not provide any protection against copying or sharing of content.
